AKONTOMBRA SENIOR HIGH

1. VISION OF THE SCHOOL

To identify academic potentials within the Akontombra community and elsewhere, and to encourage and help develop such talents under mutually cheap and affordable partnership terms.

2. THE MISSION OF THE SCHOOL

To provide access for cheap and affordable secondary school education to a marginalized and deprived rural pupils who would have otherwise been deprived of secondary school education due to ignorance and high level of poverty.

4. BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

The school was established and absorbed by the Ghana Education Service in January, 1994 through the initiative of the chiefs and people of Akontombra in the then Sefwi Wiawso District who unanimously realized the dynamics of secondary school education on the socio-economic development of individuals and the society at large.

The Akontombra Senior High School is basically a Day School. Yet it has hostel facilities that can accommodate about 150 students. There is a Six-unit classroom block with office and store. As at the time of this documentation, a three-storey administration block was being constructed with a government (Ghana Education Trust GET) fund.

5. MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS OVER THE YEARS SSCE/WASSCE.

The school’s achievements have been quite significant. Over the years the performance in SSCE and WASSCE results have seen a good number of the institution’s graduates qualifying to pursue various programmes in many tertiary institutions across the country. In recent years for example, from 2005 – 2008, most graduates from the school have benefited the Less Endowed initiatives of some of the public universities of Ghana.

For the first in the history of the school, it participated in the Regional Milo Competition at Gyandu Park in 2005. It also features regularly in the annual inter-colleges games of the sub-regional sports federation and currently (2009), its female soccer team are the champions of the zone.

6. CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The institution has since the year planted trees in some parts of the Akontombra township.
