  2. BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL.

Asawinso Senior High School was established in January 1991, as a community school. It is located at Sefwi Asawinso in the Sefwi Wiawso District of the Western Region. It has a land area of about 48. 5 acres along Sefwi Wiawso – Juaboso trunk road.

The school was initially established to offer courses in Agricultural Sciences, Home Economics and Visual Arts. With time, it expanded to include Business and the General Arts. Presently the Visual Arts Department has died away.

The school opened under the headship of Mr. J. K Danso, with about 50 students and impressive number of teachers. Since then, enrolment has grown steadily and presently, there are over 700 students with 40 teaching and non teaching staff.

The school recently marked its 17th anniversary celebration in January 2009. January has therefore been set aside as the school anniversary day.

It is a day school with hostel facilities; the students pay the normal approved GES school fees and the students are fed.

  1. MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS OVER THE YEARS

From the humble beginning, the school’s achievements have been quite impressive over the years, with progressive performance in the SSSCE and WASSCE. Significant number of its products has graduated from the nation’s Universities and other institutions of higher learning with much more gaining admission to various Universities with the recent WASSCE result.

In the year 2002, Asawinso Senior High School came first in the Western North Sport Federation, made of thirteen (13) schools. The school subsequently, represented the Federation at the regional games at Sekondi – Tokaradi.

In the year 2003, the school won the choral and cultural competition in the Sefwi Wiawso District and subsequently represented the district at the regional level during which the school performed creditably and was placed 3rd in the regional singing competition.

Also in 2005, in the series of inter schools’ debate that usually precedes the independence anniversary, the school again won the District competition and had another opportunity of representing the District at the Regional level at Sekondi – Takoradi.

In the same year at the Reading and Comprehension Competition, one Miss Victoria Boadi won the girls division at the district level and went ahead to place 2nd at the regional level.

In February 2010, during the Sefwi Zone Sports Competition, ASEC won the girls Volley Ball Competition while the Boys also won the Football Competition. Thus, both boys and the girls of the school represented the Sefwi Zone at the Regional Milo Games competition at Sekondi – Takoradi.

  1. SCHOOL FACILITIES.

Asawinso Senior High School has administration block comprising the Headmaster’s office, Accountant’s office, General Administrative office and a staff common room. The school has ten (10) classrooms for the programmes offered. It also has a laboratory though, not properly equipped. The library has textbooks for the various subject areas but grossly insufficient.

Though the school has a football field, it has been greatly affected by erosion but plans are far advanced for the construction of a new pitch for the school.

Asawinso Senior High School believes that co-curricula activities are important educational experiences that complement learning, is environmentally friendly with recreational spaces for co-curricula activities.
