DUNKWA SENIOR HIGH TECHNICAL SCHOOL
1. BRIEF HISTORY OF INSTITUTION
i) Dunkwa Senior High Technical School originally was called KYEREMFEM Secondary Technical School. The original name was given because the school is located in Kyeremfem, a suburb of Dunkwa-on-Offin in Denkyira Traditional area.
As a result of the 1987 Education Reforms which necessitated the establishment of a Community Secondary Technical school, the Kyeremfem Experimental Junior Secondary School was up-graded to a Secondary Technical School
2. THE SCHOOL LOGO
Interpretation of the symbols of the Logo are as follows:
i. The stool represents the traditional seat of the Denkyira people
ii. The book on the stool symbolizes knowledge acquisition.
iii. The wall stands for the Technical programme, pot for the Home Economics and basket, hoe and machete for the Agriculture programme; all to give skills to our students to be able to serve their communities.
iv. Year of establishment:- The school was established on the 28th of January, 1991 in the year of Our Lord
ii) Location :-The school is sited opposite to the public cemetery, Mfuom Road Dunkwa –on – Offin in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality, North – East of the Central Region of the Republic of Ghana.
3. PROGRAMMES AND CORRESPONDING SUBJECTS OFFERED
The school offers the following programmes and corresponding subjects:-
a. Agriculture Science: General Agriculture, Crop Husbandry and Horticulture, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (Elective)
b. Home Economics: Foods and Nutrition, Management -in-Living, Economics, Biology, General Knowledge In Art
c. Business: Financial Accounting, Principles of Cost Accounting, Economics, Mathematics (elective), Business Management
d. Technical: Technical Drawing, Building Construction, Woodwork, Applied Electricity, Mathematics (Elective), Physics
e. General Arts: Economics, Geography, Literature -in-English, Government, Christian Religious Studies, French, Mathematics (Elective), Asante Twi
4. STATUS OF INSTITUTION
The official status of the school is DAY. However, due to the far distances some of the students come from (about thirty percent (30%) of the students), the school started running the hostel and later the BOARDING system along side the day.
6. EXTRA CURRICULA ACTIVITIES
SPORTS:
The school’s participation in all sporting activities such as Athletics, Soccer, Handball and Volley ball is highly appreciable.
In Athletics, the following trophies were won for the school: 400m Girls, Javelin boys, long jump boys, Triple jump boys in zone five athletics competition held on 18th and 19th February, 2010 at Dunkwa –on –Offin.
More so, the school presented fifteen (15) Athletes in the 20th Annual Regional Athletics Competition held at the schools and colleges park at Adisadel from 4th to 5th March, 2010.
Our Boys’ Soccer team is currently the champion for Central Region Zone 5 and is a force to reckon with in the whole of the Central Region.
Our Girls’ Soccer team has also been three times champions in succession for the Central Region Zone 5.
In volley ball, our boys are the current zonal champions and placed second in the Regional games while our girls were second in the zone but could not qualify for the Milo Championship.
Handball which has just been introduced to our school, is rapidly gaining grounds. Our boys were second while the girls placed third in the zone. We hope to improve in the coming years.
DEBATES & QUIZZES
The school actively takes part in all debates and quizzes organized for schools and our performance is encouraging.
VOLUNTARY BLOOD DONATION
The students of this school are noted for consistently donating blood to the Government Hospital Blood Bank in Dunkwa – on – Offin almost every term.
EXCURSIONS & FIELD TRIPS
Occasionally, excursions and field trips are organized for some students to places of interest.
