DWAMENA AKENTEN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
1. VISION
Dwamena Akenten is established on a firm conviction to provide an excellent Secondary Education for boys and girls in the community in particular, and the country as a whole. We recognize hard work, discipline and the fear of God as a guide in our school life and education of our students.
2. MISSION
Dwamena Akenten was established by the visionaries of the community to provide Secondary Education for children who wish to pursue higher education. It was realized that hitherto children in the community had to go to Kumasi, the nearest place and other far away places for Secondary Education at a higher cost to parents and guardians.
The mission was therefore to make Secondary Education more accessible and affordable to the local people particularly to those who could not afford the high cost of sending their children and wards outside the district or community for Secondary Education
3. BRIEF HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTION
Dwamena Akenten Secondary School is located on a spur in- between Asamankama ( Offinso ) and Namong on the Kumasi – Techiman highway.
Name: was named after one of the past Offinsohene.
The school was established in 1964, and prominent among the visionaries who established the school are the then offinsohene Nana Kwaku Wiafe ÌÌ, Opanin Kwasi Addae of Kokote and Opanin Kwadwo Kra of Asamankama. Opanin Kwasi Addae and Kwadwo Kra were both illiterates but, they gave their houses freely to the school to be used as student hostels. They also mobilized money to pay the salaries of the teachers for the first year that the school was purely a community school. The traditional council, however, provided classrooms for the school. The school was taken over by the government just one year after its establishment; an achievement that was largely due to Mr. Sam Boateng, a former Regional Director of Education who was a son of Offinso.
Mr. Daniel Asamoah was the first Headmaster of the school when it was owned by the community. After the take over by the government, Mr. Ababio, a native of Offinso, was invited from Sadler Baptist School in Kumasi now Kumasi Academy, to head the school. After Mr. Ababio, came Mr. Obeng Asamoah, Mr. Brefo Gyema, and Mr. S.K Degban respectively. The school is now headed by Mr. K.O Frimpong Dwamena.
The school celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1989 when Mr. S.K Degban was the headmaster.
