JUABEN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

JUABEN ASHANTI

  1. INTRODUCTION & HISTORY

The school now known as Juaben Senior High School has a long chequered history. It started as a girl’s school with the name Juaben Methodist Girls Boarding and Day school in 1950. It started in temporary premises with eighteen day scholars. It was to be an experiment in co-operation between the Church and the local authority in providing boarding-school education for primary 3-6. The basic experimental school was headed by Ms. Odoom

Nana Yaw Sarpong, the then Omanhene of Juaben Traditional Area played significant role in this and also donated 64 acres of land on which the school is presently sited.

After twelve years of its establishment the school was changed to a Women’s Training College. The Training College started on 25th October, 1962 with 27 students and two tutors namely E.T. Glante and Mrs. H.M. Dolling. When the College was in the third year Mrs. Rose Coker took over form Mrs. Dolling, the acting Principal, as the substantive Principal on 23rd October, 1964.

The Training College also existed for only 10 years. Thus on 3rd November, 1972, it became a mixed Secondary School with the name Juaben Secondary School. The Secondary School was opened with 87 students.

Mrs. Rose E. Coker doubled as the Principal and the first Headmistress. The population of the school as at the end of the 2009/2010 academic year stood at 1932. This was made up of 320 Day students and 1612 boarders. The ratio of boys to girls is 1066:866.

The school is currently headed by the Very Rev. Isaac Osei Boadi – the fifth sustantive Headmaster and the first Methodist Minister to have headed the school.
