2. BRIEF HISTORY OF KWANYAKO SENIOR HIGH
This school was established as a community school at Agona Kwanyako by the Government as part of the 1987 Educational reforms.
At the time of its inception in January 1991, the total student enrolment was twenty (20), comprising of 12 boys and 8 girls under the headship of Mr. J.K. Kanfra.
In March 1996, a sad incident took place which derailed the steady progress of the school. On that day, the community violently rose against the school authority (J.K. Kanfra – the Headmaster). This unfortunate incident which resulted in the loss of life of one person also ended up with the transfer of the first Headmaster. The 1996 incident almost led to the collapse of the school as the enrolment reduced drastically to as low as 15 students.
In Sept.1996, a new Headmaster, Mr. Kweku Yeboah, took over the school administration with patience and serious enrolment drive. As at February 2005 when he retired, the school enrolment had reached 400. In April 2005, a new Headmaster, Mr. Francis Alex Koomson, took over as the third substantive Head of the school. The leadership of Mr. Koomson quickly brought about a sudden boom in the popularity of the school. Enrolment shot up; students’ performance as well as school infrastructure improved tremendously. The current student population is 1080. The school has a computer laboratory, which has internet facility and can seat about a hundred students. The dynamic Parent Teachers Association(PTA) of the school purchased a bus for the school, and put up two big classrooms. Currently the PTA is almost half- way through with the boys’ dormitarory project – 3 storey with staff bungalows.
Currently, the school has two (2) Buses and two (2) Pickups.
