  1. BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

Nkroful Agricultural Senior High School was established as Nkroful Middle Boarding School in 1962. The idea is said to have been rooted by osagefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.  When the then Chief of Nkroful, Nana Bulumia Twum III was contacted, he readily released approximately one hundred and twenty acres of land in support of the project, since he himself is said to have cherished education so much.

The school which started with fifty students with boys in the majority was commissioned by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah himself on 29th March, 1962.  Besides absorbing students around the catchment area of Nkroful, Nkroful Middle Boarding School attracted students even beyond the frontiers of Nzemaland.  The school at this stage which was purely under boarding administration had both masters and students housed at the campus.  From the time of its established till 1966, it was virtually free.

Subjects taught and learnt include English Language, Mathematics, History, Geography, Civil Education and Domestic Science. Madam Nyankson who used to teach Domestic Science was the first Head teacher. The 1966 coup d’etat which saw the overthrow of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his C.P.P government disturbed the progress of the school to the point of being collapsed. By this time, students were being made to pay fees. In early 1972, Lt Col. Acheampong who became head of state brought back the corpse of the first president Dr. Nkrumah from Guinea to Nkroful for reburial. After the president reburial, Acheampong quickly expressed hi s interest to upgrade the middle boarding school into Agricultural Bias Secondary School which was very much inline with his rural development and operation feed yourself policy.  Acheampong also said that the upgraded school was to be named after the mother of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah i.e. Nyaneba.

Following this pronouncement of head of state, Prof. La Nyame, the then Dean of the Faculty of Agric. [UG, Legon] Mr. Bartei Doku, Senior Lecturer of the same faculty, and Mr. A. Boye-Doe the Regional Education Officer, seized the opportunity and at a ceremony held at the school’s premises, declared officially the upgrading of the school to a secondary status with it’s name metamorphosing to Nkroful Agricultural Secondary school. In line with the government’s policy of education reforms, the school at one point in time following the SSS concept, because called Nkroful Agric Senior Secondary School, just as the present concept of naming has made it to become Nkroful Agric. Senior High school.
