Shama Senior High School was founded in 1990 as part of Educational Reforms of 1988.
The school as the name implies is located in Shama.
The school started on the premises of Shama Secondary Technical Fisheries School, a private second cycle institution founded by the late Mr. Edward K. Dontoh in the early 1970’s. The school collapsed after some few years of existence. Additional structures were provided by the Government.
The school started with sixty students and four masters. The initial programmes offered were General Agriculture, Visual Arts and Home Economics. The first Headmaster of the school was Mr. Matthew Cudjoe.

- ACHIEVEMENTS
ACADEMICS
During the first SSCE results when the ‘big’ schools were scoring zero percent (0%) Shama Secondary School had one student who qualified to enter university. He has successfully graduated from KNUST.
The best SSCE result was obtained by Master Adenyo an Agricultural Science student who had aggregate 10 in 2000.
The best WASSCE result was obtained by Master Eric Gyaabin a General Arts student who had 6A’s and 2C’s in 2007.
SPORTS
In 2009 the school was one of the three schools from the Western Region that represented the region in the Girls Inter-Regional basketball.
The school was the runner up in the soccer boys division in the 2010 Regional Inter-School soccer competition.
The school has been doing well in athletic competitions in the Sekondi-Takoradi Zone.
The school was first in the boys division in 2006, and continued to be between first and fourth positions.
CULTURE
In the area of culture the school came second in the Inter districts cultural festivals for Senior High Schools in the Western Region held at G.S.T.S in Takoradi.
- SCHOOL FACILITIES
The school has twenty-six classrooms in two storey blocks.
There are three laboratories in the school ie: physics, chemistry and biology.
The school has a standard library, an ICT centre, Visual Arts block, Home Economic Department, an infirmary, two dormitories one for boys and the other for girls.
There is a Guidance and Counselling units manned by the school chaplain Reverend Minister of the Methodist church, and counselling team.
- CO-CURRICULA ACTIVITIES
There are ten clubs in the school..They are the science club, writers and debating club, Home Economics club, Environmental club, Civic club, Business club, UNESCO club, Visual Arts club, Scripture Union, GUNSA and Voluntary club.
These clubs meet fortnightly. The clubs have members of staff as their patrons.
There exist also a vibrant fire cadet that keeps its members fit all the time through regular exercises. The cadet liven school ceremonies with drills.
The school also has choir that sings songs during church services, school ceremonies and represent the school during competitions.
The school also organizes fortnight programmes that include health talks, film shows, debates, variety shows etc……for students
- STAKEHOLDERS
OLD STUDENTS
There exists a vibrant old students association (SOSA) of the school. The old students have been visiting the school annually to interact with the students to inspire them as role models and have fun games with them.
PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION (P.T.A)
The P.T.A has been very supportive over the years. The P.T.A has undertaken the following projects: purchase of a 207 bus, purchase of a truck, construction of canteen for the day students, purchase of a parcel of land for the construction of a school field and it also equipped the ICT laboratories. The P.T.A sponsors most of the school programmes.
TRADITIONAL AUTHORITY
The traditional authority also shows much interest in the development of the school. For example the school land was provided by the community. The chiefs are always available when their assistance is needed.
DISTRICT ASSEMBLY
Shama District used to be part of Shama-Ahanta-East Metropolitan Assembly. Shama District was created in February, 2008. As a second cycle institution the assembly has not been very supportive of the activities in the school; although Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly constructed a four unit classrooms block for the school when it was at the old site. However, the Shama District Assembly has helped to relocate the Muslim cemetery that was very close to the school.
OTHER STAKEHOLDERS
Lower Pra Rural Bank with its headquarters in Shama has been very supportive. The bank recently donated GH¢5,000 towards the construction of an outside kitchen for the school. The bank had already donated Corn mill to the school
Esemaman Development Association has constructed two urinals for the school and support. brilliant but needy students in the school.
