HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
St. Margaret Mary Senior High School was established by the St. Margaret Mary Parish, Dansoman, as a co-educational private day school in October 1996. The official opening of the school was performed by Hon. Kwabena Kyere, Deputy Minister of Education on 24th May 1997. The ceremony was under the distinguished patronage of His Grace Archbishop (Emeritus) Dominic Kwadwo Andoh, then Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra. The 1st Headmaster of the school was the late Mr. Anthony Aidoo a renowned retired educationist. Teaching staff numbered four (4) and the students were 23 (17 girls and boys).
In the second year of its existence, there was the physical movement of the school form St. Bernadette Soubirous compound to the first uncompleted building at new site on the 2nd and 3rd of September 1998.
The school is indeed indebted to Ebenezer secondary school for hosting the final year students in it’s early years (2000-2003) to write their SSSCE.
On the 16th September, 2003, after the death of Mr. Anthony Aidoo, the 1st Headmaster. Mr. Francis Kwashie Ahiafor took full charge of the school as Headmaster on secondment from Ebenezer Secondary School, Dansoman, where he was an Assistant Headmaster. The first Board of Governors of the school was constituted and inaugurated on 16th January 2004, to help assist in the administration of the school.
In September 2005 the board of Governors, with the blessing of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, graciously allowed the school to be absorbed into the public school system.
By the grace of God the school has now improved by leaps & bounds infrastructural and the student population has also increased.
