1. VISION:

St. Thomas Senior High Technical school with a motto” Search for the truth” is a government assisted mixed Catholic Institution offering quality holistic education to ensure the production of high caliber academics and morally upright man power for the nation.

2. MISSION:
The Institute is in partnership with all stake-holders with the view to making available all relevant teaching and learning materials and also to provide a very good learning atmosphere to facilitate effective teaching and learning.

4. BRIEF HISTORY OF INSTITUTION:
St. Thomas Senior High Technical School, situated in Asamankese in the Eastern Region was originally known as Asamankese Catholic Secondary Technical School. It was established in 1991 at the premises of the defunct Catholic Experimental Junior Secondary School. The school was opened on 28th January, 1991, headed by Mr. Joseph Peter Otoo (M. Ed. France) who transferred from Nkawkaw Secondary School.
To give it the unique Catholic identity the name of the school was changed to St. Thomas Secondary Technical School after the Patron Saint of students, St. Thomas Aquinas, whose feast day falls on 28th January, the fateful day the school was born.
On 13th September, 1993, the School moved to her permanent site 4km, from the centre of the town, off the Asamankese – Accra road.

IMPORTANT SCHOOL DATES: The founders Day is observed on 28th January. The school celebrated her 10th Anniversary in 2002.

5. MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS:
(i) SSSCE: Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (*see appendix*)
(ii) WASSCE: West African Senior School Certificate Examination (* See appendix*).
(iii) Regional Games: Aside the academic work, we are also noted for sports and games. For the 2008 Eastern Region Second Cycle Schools Sports Association, Zonal Sports festival held in February, 2008, at Asamankese, St. Thomas won first position in the boys Athletics. For handball, ST. Thomas girls’ team was 3rd. In 2009, St. Thomas won the second position for Boys Athletics at the Zonal competition. Our boy’s handball and table tennis teams won 3rd positions among eleven SHT Schools.

6. SCHOOL FACILITIES:
(i) Academic:
(a) Classrooms: The School has 4-blocks of 4 – Units classrooms.
(b) Laboratories:
• Science department has Laboratories for Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
• Information and Communication Technology.
(c) Library: The School has a forty (40) Seating capacity library stocked with two thousand (2000) books covering all programmes pursued in the School. Attached to the Library is a Textbooks Store.
(e) Home Economics Department:
The Department is endowed with a 4-unit spacious and well equipped Classroom Block for Food & Nutrition, Clothing and Textiles, Management –in-Living and a self – contained Practice room.
(f) Wood Work Department: The department has an airy Bench room with 10 workshop benches and a Machine room. There are 2 stores each attached to the Bench and Machine rooms
(ii) Non-Academic:
(a) Recreational Grounds – The School has a standard football field in an eight lanes 400m oval arena.
(b). Canteen: The School has a well ventilated canteen with 7 cubicles for the comfort of food vendors, 18 students Dining tables with 65 benches and a Teachers’ Dining Room with 4 tables and 7 chairs.

7. ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES
a. Agriculture Science: General Agriculture, Crop Husbandry, Animal Husbandry, Chemistry, Mathematics
b. Technical Programme: Building & Construction, Technical Drawing, Woodwork, Elective Mathematics
c. Visual Arts: General Knowledge in Art, Graphic Design, Sculpture, Elective Mathematics
d. Home Economics: General Knowledge in Art, Management in Living, Food and Nutrition, Clothing and Textiles, Biology
e. General Science: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Elective Mathematics

8. CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
In order to achieve the vision set by the school, it embarks upon various activities;
(i) Worship: Wednesday morning school worship is obligatory for both students and teachers as “the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom”
(ii) Health Educations: Daily morning general compound cleaning is supervised by teachers. Clean – up exercises are undertaken especially during Catholic Education Week celebration in town.
(iii) Entertainment: The Entertainment Committee organizes debates quizzes and educational film shows.
(iv) Clubs: The school recognizes the gregarious nature of humankind hence encourages students to belong to at least one club in the school. Clubs that functions in the school are the Civic Education, Red Cross, Pen, Science and Mathematics, Choir and Virgins.
(v) Blood Donation: It is on record that, the school is one of the most vibrant leading regular voluntary Blood Donation outfits that could be counted on by the Regional Blood Bank in the Regional Central Hospital in Koforidua.

9. STAKEHOLDERS:
(i) Old Student: – Although the school is young, the Old students have initiated on association which has a two – member representation on the school Board of Governors.
(ii) Parent – Teacher Association: – the school is blessed with a formidable Parent – Teacher Association with a representation on the school’s Board of Governors. Some infrastructures of the school owe its existence to the P.T.A.
(iii) Traditional Authority: -by the kind gesture of the traditional authority, the school is endowed with 131 acre if land. It was given as gift to the catholic diocese of Koforidua so the indenture of the land is in the name of Catholic diocese of Koforidua. The traditional authority is also represented on the school’s governing board.
(iv) Municipal Assembly: The West Akyem Municipal Assembly has provided some infrastructure for the school. The honourable members of the Assembly serve on the school’s Board of governors.
